At Fiordland College, we are absolutely focused on ensuring our students achieve to their full potential. Our school provides a safe and caring environment in which you can learn and thrive. Small class sizes mean you will get the attention you deserve from our specialist teachers. We offer a wide range of subject choices, as well as tailored English language support.

Our innovative extension opportunities and Education Outside the Classroom programmes allow our students to get ahead. In a groundbreaking environmental education project, we have partnered with Air New Zealand’s ‘Kids Restore’ Environmental Trust, the Fiordland Conservation Trust and the New Zealand Government’s Conservation Department to involve our students in a project of regional, national and international significance. This project ensures students reinforce their in-class learning and acquire real-world skills that prepare them for future success. Fiordland College graduates are in demand and go onto great things.

We work closely with our international students and their parents to ensure that the time students spend at Fiordland College provides them with:
•    rigorous, high quality academic experiences
•    the chance to live as a member of a Kiwi family
•    opportunities to experience and explore the unique natural environment
•    and a chance to grow both as an individual and member of the global community.

If you are looking for the educational experience of a lifetime, one that stands out from all the rest, Fiordland College is the ideal choice.

At Fiordland College, you can choose from a wide range of academic courses. Our specialist teachers will help you achieve to the highest level, including through our leadership programmes at senior school. Fiordland College offers the nationally prescribed curriculum that is compulsory for all New Zealand schools. Reports are issued to parents regularly throughout the year. The Fiordland College Curriculum reflects the interests and needs of its community and the requirements of the NZ Curriculum as required by the Ministry of Education. In the senior school (Years 11, 12 and 13), students study towards the National Certificate of Educational Achievement. This is our national qualification and is internationally recognised.

All subjects are offered, subject to sufficient students opting to take a subject and staff availability.

English as a Second Language (ESOL)
Each week international students have at least four hours of ESOL instruction, which is included free of charge. Students are individually assessed and experienced teachers and ESOL tutors run programmes with an emphasis on effective communication. Class numbers are always small with generally fewer than six students. In addition to reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, students are given support in their other subjects including the literacy requirement for NCEA Levels 1 & 2.

Sport and culture
At Fiordland College, we recognise that involvement in sporting and cultural activities has many benefits. We encourage our international students to take part in the sporting and cultural activities organised at the College and within the local community. Outdoor activities are an important part of New Zealanders' lives, and the school develops these skills through a dedicated Outdoor Education Programme. There are many additional day or weekend trips organised throughout the year, which cater for a wide choice of outdoor activities including skiing.

You also have the choice to participate in many cultural activities, including speech competitions, debating, and our school musical production. These activities can help broaden your understanding of the New Zealand way of life and aid English language skills and confidence.
