Perth International College of English (Perth) Western Australia

Locations

WELCOME to Perth International College of English, the most centrally located English language school in the heart of Perth city. Students from all over the world come here to learn English and experience our wonderful Australian lifestyle. Whether you are learning language skills for further study at University, Business College or High School, or to help further your career by passing an exam, or simply learning the language for travel and new experiences, your achievement is our vital concern.

Here are just a few reasons why you should consider us the Perth International College of English:

  • All teachers have TESOL qualifications and experience, guaranteeing the most professional standard of teaching.
  • Teachers & staff provide individual academic counselling for students wanting to extend their study into vocational or higher education training.
  • Materials are included in all course fees except for textbooks. Class average of 12 students.

...and there is much, much more.

On their first morning at P.I.C.E all students attend an Orientation Program, which provides them with information and advice about the College, living in Perth, visa requirements, travel concessions, opening a bank account and medical insurance. Students have an opportunity to meet each other and key P.IC.E. staff and are taken on a tour of the college and surrounding areas.

The P.I.C.E. Student Services team organises its own activities. Every Friday afternoon there is a different activity. This can be anything from beach volleyball to horseriding, or a museum visit to Bike riding in Kings Park. The activities programme is varied and suits every student budget. All the activities are accompanied by a teacher or member of staff.

There are also plenty of weekend excursions to join. P.I.C.E. works together with a local tour company which specialises in student getaways in Western Australia. Amongst the popular ones are Monkey Mia, South West Trip or Pinnacles at Sunset. Bookings and payments can be made at P.I.C.E. and a new programme is available at reception every month.

A dedicated Student Services Co-ordinator is available at P.I.C.E to book accommodation for students, assist them with their enquiries and advise them on all aspects of accommodation in Perth.

HOMESTAY: P.I.C.E. believes homestay accommodation can be of great benefit to English Language students, as they are able to experience authentic English in a family environment. Even if students would prefer to live in a private shared house, we recommend students start in homestay accommodation for the first four weeks, while they look for suitable shared accommodation. All P.I.C.E homestays are carefully chosen to ensure students receive a high standard of accommodation and a warm, friendly welcome to Western Australia. Homestay students have their own room with a bed, desk and wardrobe space. Students in homestay receive breakfast and dinner during the week (half board) and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday and public holidays.

HOSTEL: Some students prefer to stay in a hostel. P.I.C.E can book students into a local hostel only 15 minutes walk from the college. This option is for the more independent students who wants to enjoy city living at an affordable price. You will have your own room and shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. For more information about facilities and prices have a look at the Townsend Lodge website.

Study at Perth International College of English

On your first morning at school, you will be given a test to help us decide the best class for you. The test includes a grammar test, writing test and an interview which evaluates your speaking and listening skills.

General English (full-time): 25 hours per week, including the Friday afternoon activity. Elementary to Advanced level. Course length up to 60 weeks. The interactive methods of the General English classes extend into specialist elective classes in the afternoon. Students have the opportunity to practise their acquired skills in real life situations.

Electives

Academic English: Combined with General English, this is an afternoon elective for full time students. Minimum Intermediate level required. Students apply the language skills learnt in the morning to help prepare for further academic study. Topics such as report writing, research and note-taking skills are an important part of the elective. (Students may have the opportunity to use IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC material).

English for Business: Combined with General English, this is an afternoon elective for full time students. Minimum Intermediate level required. This course introduces students to key business concepts and the language of the business world, including meetings, negotiating and telephoning.

Listening and Speaking: Combined with General English, this is an afternoon elective for full time students. Minimum Intermediate level required. This elective further develops vocabulary and the skills of listening and speaking.

English for Academic Purposes

The English for Academic Purposes preparation course at P.I.C.E. is suitable for students who want to take an IELTS test, for example for entry to further education in Australia (TAFE/university) or migration purposes. The course has the features of an exam course (intensive study program, tailored homework schedule and weekly exam practice).

IELTS tests all four language skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Speaking test is a face-to-face interview with a certified Examiner. It is interactive and as close to a real-life situation as a test can get. This means your understanding of English is improved and valid for real life in an English-speaking country. More than 6000 organisations, including many government departments and universities, rely on IELTS. The IELTS scoring system is recognised globally, giving you a truly international result.
